Photography
My photography explores the people, places, and cultural landscapes that have shaped my understanding of identity and community. Through images of Denver and New Mexico Chicano and Mexican communities, as well as photographs from Mexico and Cuba, I document environments, traditions, and everyday moments that reveal connections across cultures and generations.
Photography has always been an important point of departure for my paintings and drawings. My photographs serve as visual memories and sources of inspiration, providing images, gestures, environments, and personal narratives that are transformed through my other artistic practices.
Using digital technology as part of my creative process, I transform photographs through layering, color, and visual experimentation. I use applications such as Vivid HDR, Snapseed, and Vintage Scene to enhance and reinterpret the images, moving beyond documentation toward a more expressive and emotional vision. Through distortion, exaggeration, and shifts in color and texture, I seek to reveal the atmosphere, memory, and deeper meaning within the places and communities I encounter.
