Children's Books
These books, written by Dr. George Rivera and illustrated by Tony Ortega are part of a series that recounts the adventures of a Chicano boy, Pano, and his two dogs, Cholo and Vato. Their adventures include a Day of the Dead celebration in Mexico, and a summer in northern New Mexican village. Their experiences are described in Spanish and English with colorful and lively illustrations by Ortega. Their adventures give students glimpses of Chicano culture and convey an appreciation through open discussions about tradition, identity and childhood discovery.
"Aztec Adventure of Cholo, Vato and Pano", This beautifully illustrated bilingual book relates a child's view of the time when Halloween ends and the Day of the Dead begins.
"Who am I? Family Adventures Of Cholo, Vato, and Pano", The book details Pano's journey of self-discovery through a summer of conversations with his grandmother.
