The High Wall was an outdoor video projection project presented at the Inscape Arts Building in Seattle, Washington. The video works were projected onto the building’s exterior and visible after dark from July 27 to 30, 2023.
Art Videos
My art videos extend my interest in layered imagery, collage, and visual storytelling found throughout my printmaking practice. Like my hand-colored etchings and silkscreens, these works combine fragments of images, symbols, and cultural references to create unexpected connections. Using iPad technology, iMovie, and other digital tools, I remix appropriated GIFs, animations, and fragments of popular culture to explore the intersections of American, Mexican, and Chicano experiences. My compositions are built through layering, repetition, and transformation. I use distortion, exaggeration, and visual rhythm to create moving collages where familiar images are reimagined and new meanings emerge. Humor is an important part of my creative process, allowing me to approach complex subjects through irony, satire, and play.
As a Chicano artist, I explore identity, history, politics, and popular culture through a visual language that embraces both humor and contradiction. My work doesn’t preach—it pokes. It laughs at what hurts, flips symbols on their heads, and celebrates survival with satire and side-eye. Through these videos, I invite viewers to question familiar images, discover unexpected connections, and experience culture as something constantly evolving and being remixed.
